Looking ahead to St Luke's Night Strider 2018

For the fourth year in a row, Gripple is delighted to be sponsoring 'Night Strider' - a charity night walk round the centre of Sheffield, in aid of St Luke's Hospice.

St Luke's Hospice is Sheffield's specialist palliative care service and a charity touching the lives of over 5,000 people in the city every year. The event challenges people to undertake a 10 km or half marathon walk around the city, kicking off at 7pm on Saturday 6th October.

As a large Sheffield employer, with a close association to St Luke's, we're delighted to be able to support what promises to be another inspiring event. To celebrate our association with the event, we took the opportunity to speak to people in our business who have come into contact with St Luke's in the past.

Kirstie Royston, our internal sales manager, from Dore and based at our Sheffield sites, spoke about her experience of the charity:

“St Luke’s recently cared for both my parents in law, Janet & Tony Royston, and we'd really like to show our appreciation to them by raising funds to ensure that others continue to have access to the care they provide. As record holders for both the longest serving resident and the shortest period of time between husband and wife being cared for at St. Luke's, we feel we probably owe them a little more than most! We cannot stress enough the valuable work they do and the exceptional care they give, not just to the patient but to their families as well.”

I can’t praise them highly enough, my father in law was invited by them to attend once a week as a day patient when he was first diagnosed with terminal cancer. He was really apprehensive about going, but when he came home he couldn’t stop talking about how lovely everyone was – he said it felt like they were really interested in him as a person, and that it was the first time he’d felt like that since his diagnosis. They even went to the bother of phoning on a regular basis to ask how he was doing when he got admitted to hospital shortly after. It’s those personal touches that make St. Luke’s so special."

On behalf of the business, we hope everyone taking part in Night Strider has a great night raising money and awareness for such an important charity.

Gripple is always looking for the next generation of passionate, inquisitive people to join its growing business in Sheffield and across the globe. For more information on our latest careers opportunities, visit www.gripple.com/careers.
