Gripple execs get 'peddling around the world' for charity

Six Gripple executives – including the managing director – based at the manufacturer’s Sheffield headquarters are ‘girding their legs’ for a 24-hour continuous ‘cycle ride’ to raise cash for the city’s Woolley Wood School for children with learning difficulties or disabilities.

This mammoth effort – the GRIPFATALON – is part of a head-to-head race with the Sheffield site aiming to be the first to reach the cumulative 15,000-mile distance between the company’s four sites around the world.

The Sheffield group needs sponsors to ‘send them on their way’! A number of individuals and local companies have already pledged their support but, to reach its donation target of at least £1,500, many more are needed.

At The Old West Gun Works in Savile Street East the event starts at 3pm on Thursday May 26th and completes 24 hours later. All staff are being encouraged to jump onto of the cycling machines at any time during the event!

Charlotte Hill, a Gripple product manager and organiser of the event, said: “We have many keen sports men and women across the company and we thought it would be fun to promote some healthy competition away from the day to day operations of the business.”

In the virtual worldwide race - dubbed the Grippathlon - staff at the other Gripple sites in Chicago, Strasbourg and New Delhi will be fundraising by running, cycling, swimming or hiking in support of their chosen charities.

Funds raised by the challenge will be supporting initiatives such as Hesed House, a shelter for homeless people in Illinois, USA; SOS Children’s Villages India. The money raised by the Gripple Sheffield workforce will help to create a sensory garden at Woolley Wood School

Gripple donates one per cent of budgeted profits to charitable organisations each year, with each region having its own charity committee which organises donations to deserving causes and encourages internal participation in charity events throughout the year.
