Gripple supported the successful delivery of the Highway 20 Solar Farm, a 7MW utility-scale solar PV project located in Hampshire, Illinois, USA. United Renewable Energy used Gripple’s Cable Bridge and Power-Tie solutions across the site to deliver a robust, safe, and efficient approach to string cable management.
The Challenge
United Renewable Energy had previously encountered significant challenges with cable protection. Sharp frame edges and metal components were rubbing against cables, while traditional tie-wraps and other products were cutting into cable jacketing. This created risks of abrasion, long-term cable damage, and potential system faults – all of which could lead to costly rework and future maintenance issues if left unresolved.
The Solution
Gripple was brought in to provide a safer, purpose-built alternative for string cable management. Working closely with United Renewable Energy, our team recommended the Cable Bridge for managing transitions at BHA’s and motor gaps, and the Power-Tie for securing cables directly to the torque tube.
This combination offered a secure, non-abrasive system that reduced contact with sharp edges, cable damage, and simplified installation. The Power-Tie’s direct-fix design ensured consistent tension and long-term performance, while the Cable Bridge provided clean, professional routing across structural gaps.
As a result of the success on this project, Gripple’s Cable Bridge and Power-Tie are now used on multiple United Renewable Energy projects for string cable installations. Furthermore, Gripple are now listed in United Renewable Energy’s Cable Management Guide as the preferred solution for string cable installations— a strong endorsement of both product performance and on-site support.
We’ve been researching new products for our systems and came across Gripple. With other products we’ve used, we had to crimp each fastener and tie — this took too long and often led to mistakes and over-tightening. The Power-Tie, protects our cables and is fully adjustable. Based on our experience, it has revolutionised the way we manage our cables.
