Guala Closures, Glasgow

This industrial building is a new manufacturing facility for Guala Closures located in Gartcosh in Glasgow.

As part of the build, Emtec and Sauter Offsite Manufacturing utilised Gripple's Trapeze Plus FR suspension system along with Fire Rated Hanger and Standard Hanger wire rope kits to suspend cable containment, lighting, pipework and HVAC services on-site.

Guala Closures are a leading manufacturer of closures and bottle tops for the global beverage industry. Their new 222,000 sq. ft manufacturing facility has been built in Glasgow, Scotland. As main contractor for the project, Emtec Property, appointed Sauter Offsite Manufacturing and Emtec Building Services to deliver various building services on-site including the electrical, mechanical and HVAC packages.

Lightweight, quality product that reduces time spent working at height. Clean looking uniformity of install, perfect solution for the client and our requirements.
Mark Graham, Operations Manager, Sauter Offsite Manuacturing

Sauter Offsite Manufacturing were tasked with developing a lightweight, fire-rated M&E support system that would have a low carbon installation process. Sauter utilised Trapeze Plus FR, Gripple's certified fire-tested wire suspension system, to install various building services efficiently while reducing labour time, material weight, and embodied carbon. These independently tested wire rope kits provide a fully compliant, fire-resistant suspension solution.

In the new Guala Closures building, certain areas required large drops from the ceiling to building services. Gripple’s Trapeze Plus FR kits enabled Emtec to accelerate the build schedule, minimizing time spent working at height and enhancing safety for all onsite personnel. If an alternative installation method such as threaded rod had been used to suspend services than it would have been a much slower install with higher risks of falls and accidents due to longer periods of time spent working at high heights on mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs). Gripple's suspension solutions are compact and easily transported across busy construction sites. Replacing threaded rod with Gripple wire rope saves approximately 1.2 kg of embodied carbon per metre. This switch can result in an overall embodied carbon reduction of up to 95%.

By using Trapeze Plus FR kits, Sauter and Emtec eliminated the need for cutting or filing materials before installation. Gripple suspension kits are ready to use straight from the box, streamlining the M&E installation process and removing the need for hot works, thereby reducing on-site health and safety risks across the project.

Hot works, such as using angle grinders to prepare M&E materials, are generally required on-site for cutting threaded rod and other components to size. By choosing Gripple’s prefabricated suspension solutions which are manufactured in Sheffield and delivered ready for installation, Emtec and Sauter avoided the hot works process entirely.

Additionally, Gripple’s in-house Technical Services team provided an installation design service, including detailed 2D bracket drawings to support the project team. Emtec and Sauter have now used Gripple solutions across multiple M&E projects to improve efficiency, reduce material weight, and lower their carbon footprint.
