Trellising is extremely important to Grover as their vines are long term plants. They require high levels of control over the way in which the plant grows, and the Gripple system allows for the wires to be moved around providing flexibility to help the plant grow. Before discovering Gripple products, traditional methods had been installed across other Grover vineyards for over 20 years’ with granite pillars having knots around the end post to keep the wire tight. Traditional methods are more time and labour intensive with limited flexibility in the system.
After a Gripple representative met with officials at Grover, they could see the benefits of using a Gripple system after one consultation. This project took full advantage of the Gripple Trellising system by using the GPAK, Gripple Plus range, along with the Torq Tensioning Tool and Petrol Driver to not only provide a trellising system that can be tensioned in seconds, but also one that will last for decades – this was crucial to the project as the plants last for 15 – 20 years.
If traditional methods had been used on this project it
would have taken 4/ 5 days per acre to install the trellising system, whereas the Gripple system reduced installation times down to 1 day per acre.
