The Leadenhall Building, London
Renowned British architectural firm, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, have recently moved to a brand new office space at the heart of London’s financial district. The client specified the use of Gripple Universal Bracket, Universal Pipe Clamps, Trapeze Plus FR and Express No. 2 for the installation of all HVAC, lighting & pipework on this project, to ensure an aesthetic result.

Renowned British architectural firm, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, have recently moved to a brand new office space at the heart of London’s financial district. Known informally as ‘The Cheesegrater’ due to its distinctive wedge shape, The Leadenhall Building opened in July 2014. RSHP chose to move its offices to the 14th floor of the iconic building, seeing the space as a perfect fit that was well suited to the firm’s collaborative working style.
RSHP required a unique finish for their new office, inkeeping with the firm’s commitment to innovation and visually interesting design. As the structure of the soffit and services were exposed within the building, the architect was tasked with ensuring the installation of building services complemented the building’s architectural intent. Having already provided suspension systems on The Leadenhall Building project, Gripple was familiar with the architecture of the building and able to provide a range of wire suspension solutions to ensure the space above the services was attractive and visible.
Gripple Trapeze Plus FR was used to install electrical containment; delivering comparable strength to M8 threaded rod on 2mm wire rope, while also offering one-handed adjustment during the installation. Trapeze Plus FR delivered the required strength and flexibility, as well as an aesthetic finish to complement the roof space. Gripple's Express No. 2 was used to install the ductwork and plenums. Offering a lightweight and visually discreet solution as well as finite button adjustment, contractors were able to make significant installation time savings, while reducing the time spent working at height.
Gripple Universal Bracket and Universal Pipe Clamps were chosen to secure pipework on the project; Universal Brackets arrived to site pre-cut to required lengths, eliminating on-site cutting and filing requirements that are characteristic of traditional suspension systems. Universal Pipe Clamps offered tool-free installation and quick attachment to the brackets, again ensuring the contractor could make significant labour savings during the installation of pipework.
The result is a vibrant, colourful workspace, inkeeping with RSHP’s ethos and working practices. By utilising Gripple suspension systems, the installation helped to celebrate the steelwork and services which make the modern office space function, while revealing the roof space and complementing the open-plan environment throughout the office.
