McKinstry’s construction project at Seattle University consists of a ten-story building, providing eight floors of student housing and two floors of space to consolidate student enrollment services. This building will result in more than 300 new beds of housing available for junior and senior students. Construction was completed in the Fall of 2018.

McKinstry was familiar with Gripple products and the good service the company provides, so they opted to utilize Gripple’s new Spider™ Metal Deck Insert to suspend rectangular ductwork on this project. Traditionally, to suspend the rectangular ductwork, they would have used Q-straps, 26g x 1” hanger strap, and 3/8” – 5/8” Blue Banger deck inserts. According to McKinstry, the benefit of using the Gripple Spider over traditional methods on this project is that one type of deck insert can be used for every suspended application, versus using multiple types of inserts. In addtion, Gripple cable hanger kits come ready-to-use with no need for cutting, and are less visually invasive in appearance.
