At the SCL West project for Lutheran Hospital in Denver, long-time Gripple user Apollo Mechanical utilized several Gripple products for suspending their ductwork and piping. Taking advantage of the versatility of the Spider Cast-in- Place Concrete Insert, Apollo installed Gripple Spiders that will accommodate their larger diameter all thread (with an adapter) to suspend their heaviest services. And they installed Gripple Cable Hangers throughout for anything they would normally have hung with 3/8” rod. Gripple Cable Hangers replaced over 30,000 ft of rod on this job site—over 5 ½ miles—contributing to a significantly faster and less labor intensive installation. For all their racked systems, Apollo pre-fabs them at their shop and then transports to the job site to hang. In this case, for their med gas racks, they utilized the prefabricated Gripple Universal Bracket instead of standard strut and attached the pipe with Gripple Quick Twist Clamps. According to Joe Sherman, Pre-Fab Plumbing Manager at Apollo Mechanical, the advantage of using the Gripple Quick Twist Clamps versus a traditional pipe clamp is that it that the QT Clamp can accommodate a wide range of pipe sizes from 1/2″ copper to 6” steel, meaning Apollo only needs to stock one clamp.

The alternative would be needing to stock multiple sizes of clamps for each size of pipe being installed. Other Gripple products used on the site were Gripple’s GCS strut clamp, allowing for quick adjustability in the field and a snug fit that they don’t get with their traditional strut clamps. According to Scott Johnson, Plumbing Superintendent, the early involvement of Gripple and the product demos they received ahead of time were crucial to moving this project forward with suspension solutions that were a better fit for everyone.

Gripple has replaced over 30,000 ft of rod on this site—over 5 ½ miles!”
