A direct replacement for traditional concrete insert solutions, specifically used for metal deck and wood form constructions.
9th and Colorado is a 26 acre, urban-infill project. The first stage of this high profile project consists of 275 rental units, atop 40,000 square feet of ground floor retail space.
“The cable install is easy; it’s just a matter of pushing the Swivel Toggle into the insert, checking it’s secure, and then walking away; it’s mere seconds. Using the Gripple system alleviates me from cutting all thread on the bandsaw, to different diameters and lengths.”
AMI Mechanical, installing mechanical services on the project, required a concrete insert solution, whereby anchors are placed before pouring the concrete, to save installation and labor time and improve the cost efficiency of the project. The Gripple Spider Hanger was the preferred solution.
Spider is a versatile, cast-in-place concrete insert solution for both wood form and metal deck applications. Spider’s key benefit is that it’s a universal solution, meaning it accepts rod sizes from 3/8” to 3/4”, as well as No. 2 – No. 5 Swivel Toggle Cable Hanger kits.
Prior to using Spider, AMI Mechanical would have used multiple varied-load concrete insert solutions across the site, depending on the weight of the service being suspended after the pour. Supporting loads from 100 lbs to 2200 lbs, the universality of Gripple Spider eliminated the need to hold multiple variants on-site and vastly simplified the installation. It also allowed AMI Mechanical to make the decision on load variants required to install the services at a later date.
“The benefit of installing the Spider is you can have several different choices of material. Once it’s installed and the forms are stripped, the same product does sheet metal, copper pipe, heavy cast iron pipe and steel pipe; one insert covers them all.” - John Merna, AMI Mechanical, Superintendent
On the first phase of the project, the Spider (Wood Form) was used to speed up installation time. The Wood Form Installation Tool provides the installer with the ability to grip, position and secure the Spider, and eliminates the need to bend down and repeatedly manually secure nails. The tool secures both integral nails on the Spider in one motion, improving installation time by over 50%.
Once the wood form was stripped down, AMI Mechanical installers were able to easily install cables for suspensions using Gripple Swivel Toggle End Fixings.
