Gripple
FAQs
There are so many different ways to work with wire and wire rope. Installation methods for hangers, fence, trellising wire etc. differ from region to region and from country to country.
Gripple now work in over 80 countries and here are some of the most common questions that we are asked. We hope these help, if you need further advice, please contact us and we will help.
How much tension should I apply to the wire?
There are many views on how much tension should be applied to wire. However, to taut wire can reduce the life of the wire and can be dangerous (especially when the air temperature fluctuates from very high to very low and influences the wire tension), and too slack wire can be untidy and not fit for the job in hand.
Wire should be tensioned in line with the wire manufacturers recommendations. Whether the wire is mild steel or high tensile, and the wire diameter all play a part in this measurement. It is common that wire is tensioned to a third of its breaking load – refer to manufacturers data.
By using the Gripple Torq Tensioning Tool, this allows the user to control the tension applied to the wire time-after-time. It’s as simple as setting the gauge to the required tension and when you hear the ‘click’, the desired tension has been reached.
WARNING : Never use a tractor or other similar device to tension the wire, as this may overload the wire and the Gripple, and could result in fracture.
