FAQs

There are so many different ways to work with wire and wire rope. Installation methods for hangers, fence, trellising wire etc. differ from region to region and from country to country.

Gripple now work in over 80 countries and here are some of the most common questions that we are asked. We hope these help, if you need further advice, please contact us and we will help.

Can Gripple hangers be used on brackets with sharp edges?

The working load of all Gripple hangers take sharp edges in to account. The sharpest edges are those on hardened spring steel components such as purlin clips. The load pull test in the Technical Handbook (ref: Technical 5, purlin clip) clearly shows that the 5:1 safety factor was amply maintained even under such extreme conditions. In fact, the wire rope finally failed above the Gripple, rather than on the sharp edge.

Most other sharp edges are found on mild steel components and structures. As the wire rope is made from high tensile carbon steel, it tends to flatten the surface of the mild steel at the point of contact, neutralising the perceived problem.
